How long to take aspirin and clopidogrel together

Aspirin and clopidogrel are usually taken together for up to 12 months after coronary stenting, after which clopidogrel is usually discontinued and aspirin is used for life; for ischemic stroke, the two medications are used together for 21 days. Aspirin and clopidogrel are both antiplatelet drugs that can reduce the risk of thrombosis when taken after coronary heart stenting or for ischemic stroke. However, taking aspirin and clopidogrel together carries a higher risk of bleeding, and this risk increases with age, so patients with a previous history of chronic gastritis or other medical conditions should be used with caution under the guidance of a clinician, and medications adjusted if necessary. Patients taking aspirin and clopidogrel are advised to have regular reviews and to seek medical attention in case of adverse reactions.
