What’s wrong with sneezing and sniffling when it’s hot or cold?

Sneezing and runny nose at the alternation of heat and cold may be related to vasomotor rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, non-allergic rhinitis with eosinophilia syndrome and other diseases.
1. Allergic rhinitis: contact with allergens can trigger allergic reactions in the nose, the nasal mucosal nerves are in a hypersensitive state, and sneezing and runny nose symptoms will occur when they are provoked by alternating hot and cold.
2. Vasomotor rhinitis: vasomotor rhinitis, also known as vasodilatory rhinitis, is a non-specific stimulus-induced neurotransmitter-mediated neurogenic inflammation of the nasal mucosa. Environmental factors such as temperature, air pressure, irritating gases, etc. can stimulate nasal symptoms. Sneezing and runny nose may occur when there is a change of heat and cold.
3. Non-allergic rhinitis with eosinophilia syndrome: this disease is a kind of nasal disease with clinical symptoms very similar to allergic rhinitis and characterized by significant increase of eosinophils in nasal secretion. The cause of the disease is unknown, and symptoms such as sneezing and runny nose may occur when stimulated by alternating heat and cold, but the immunological tests (in vivo and ex vivo tests) for allergens are negative.
When sneezing and runny nose occurs with alternating hot and cold, it is advisable to consult a doctor for a clear diagnosis.
