Patients with shingles are generally well when no new rash appears on the skin and the previous rash crusts over, the pain subsides, and there are no other uncomfortable symptoms. Herpes zoster is caused by the varicella zoster virus, the rash is distributed in bands, and is somewhat contagious. Patients will experience pain, accompanied by a rash, mainly erythema, papules, blisters, some patients may also experience weakness, headache and other symptoms.
