Colposcopy is used to check cervical lesions, which can provide the basis for the diagnosis and treatment of lesions in female reproductive organs. Colposcopy is needed when the following situations occur:
1. Cervical cancer screening finds abnormalities: (1) TCT shows atypical glandular cells; (2) TCT shows atypical squamous epithelial cells with HPV positivity; (3) HPV16 and HPV18 positivity. The above three cases need colposcopy to clarify whether the cervix is cancerous.
2. Disease diagnosis: after ultrasound and other related gynecological examinations, colposcopy is needed when vaginal adenopathy, vaginal tumor, vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia and other diseases are suspected.
3. Disease treatment: colposcopy should be done before cervical conization to confirm the scope of surgery. After treatment of lesions in the vagina and vulva, colposcopy is needed to review and evaluate the treatment results.
When women undergo colposcopy, they should try to choose 3-4 days after the end of menstruation in order to get more accurate results.
