What Causes Generalized Cramps in the Elderly

Generalized cramps in the elderly may be caused by hypocalcemia, tetanus and epilepsy.
1. Hypocalcemia: along with people’s aging, the elderly lose more calcium, which can easily cause hypocalcemia, leading to increased muscle nerve excitability, which may cause generalized cramps.
2. Tetanus: If the elderly are infected with Clostridium tetani due to localized abrasions, puncture wounds, cuts, etc., they may suffer from generalized cramps, which may be accompanied by stiffness of the back of the neck and accelerated heartbeat.
3. Epilepsy: Elderly people with a history of epilepsy may suffer from generalized cramps due to epileptic seizures, which may be accompanied by foaming at the mouth and distortion of the eyes and mouth.
If the elderly have generalized cramps, they should seek medical attention as soon as possible after eliminating physiological factors.
