Can tinnitus make you deaf?

Prolonged tinnitus can lead to deafness, which is a condition caused by prolonged congestion, edema, and spasm of the ear nerve. It is clinically known as neurogenic tinnitus and neurogenic deafness, and is usually directly related to prolonged late nights, fatigue, poor rest, mental stress, acute viral or bacterial infections, and endocrine system disorders and imbalances. Patients may experience persistent tinnitus in one ear in the early stage of the disease, with tinnitus existing in a high tone. Further aggravation of the disease may lead to sudden hearing loss and severe symptoms such as dizziness, nausea and vomiting. The diagnosis can be confirmed by detailed examination of electronic otoscope, electrical audiometry and cold and heat test at the hospital. In terms of treatment, central sedation and vasodilatation treatment are needed for good effect, while sleep, rest and mentality can be adjusted for gradual improvement.
