Can chronic pharyngitis cause swollen lymph nodes?

Normally, chronic pharyngitis does not cause lymph node enlargement; the symptoms of lymph node enlargement are mainly considered to be related to infection, tumor and reactive hyperplasia. Chronic pharyngitis can be divided into chronic simple pharyngitis, chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis, atrophic pharyngitis and dry pharyngitis, etc. Among them, chronic simple pharyngitis and chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis will lead to hyperplasia of submucosal connective tissues and lymphatic tissues but will not lead to lymph node enlargement. Atrophic pharyngitis and dry pharyngitis are less common and can lead to a decrease in glandular secretion, which does not lead to lymphoid hyperplasia, let alone lymph node enlargement. Symptoms of enlarged lymph nodes may be associated with upper respiratory tract infections, lymphatic tuberculosis, lymphoma, leukemia, acute necrotizing hyperplastic lymphadenopathy and histiocytosis. Patients with either chronic pharyngitis or enlarged lymph nodes should seek prompt medical attention to identify the cause and treat it.
