Recovery of intelligence is possible after treatment of lead poisoning. Early poisoning, early intervention, or less severe poisoning symptoms generally have a better prognosis, but if the patient’s symptoms are more severe and severe neurological damage or cerebral edema occurs, intelligence is more difficult to recover and the prognosis is poorer.
In the case of lead poisoning, lead expulsion treatment is the mainstay of clinical practice, and symptomatic treatment is strengthened to eliminate the continued intake of lead poison.
1. Lead expulsion treatment: at present, the preferred drug for lead expulsion treatment is calcium disodium edetate.
2. Symptomatic treatment: if the patient has severe abdominal pain, atropine, vitamin K and other drugs can be used to relieve the intestinal spasm to relieve abdominal pain; if the patient has convulsions, Valium, Phenobarbital and other drugs can be used to control the patient, and Mannitol and other drugs can be used to control the cerebral edema.
3. Eliminate the continued intake of lead poisoning: to cut off the sources of lead (such as lead-containing traditional Chinese medicine, painted tables and chairs, etc.), and to induce vomiting as early as possible for patients who have been poisoned by accidentally taking a large number of lead-containing medicines, so as to avoid further absorption.
If lead poisoning is diagnosed, it is recommended to follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment as early as possible to reduce the adverse effects of the disease.
