How to treat a fracture of the eighth thoracic vertebra

Eighth thoracic vertebral fractures can be treated both conservatively and surgically depending on the injury. It can be evaluated according to the TLICS scoring system to choose the appropriate treatment method.
1. Conservative treatment: The TLICS score is mainly used for judgment, and the corresponding injury conditions may include slight compression of the thoracic vertebral fracture and no nerve injury. It is recommended to keep lying on a hard bed for 2~3 months, and oral medication can be taken to promote fracture healing, such as bone peptide tablets or bone splints, etc., and medication to prevent blood clots, such as aspirin and rivaroxaban, etc. It is also necessary to carry out regular review of thoracic vertebrae CT and X-ray films.
2. Surgical treatment: If the TLICS score is equal to 4, both surgical and conservative treatment are possible. Corresponding injuries may include vertebral separation, posterior ligamentous complex injury with cauda equina injury, etc. Minimally invasive interventional therapy may be chosen. Minimally invasive interventional therapy is an option, in which a hollow pin is inserted into the fracture site of the eighth thoracic vertebra and injected with bone cement for immobilization.
When the eighth thoracic vertebra is fractured, it is difficult to accurately determine the degree of injury, and it is recommended to consult a doctor for symptomatic treatment in time to avoid deterioration of the condition.
