Is it normal to be hungry right after a bowel movement?



There are physiological and pathologic reasons for hunger after bowel movement, and pathologic reasons include hyperthyroidism and diabetes mellitus.

1. Physiological reasons: one situation is that the gastrointestinal tract is emptied after the stool, resulting in a sense of emptiness in the stomach, so the feeling of hunger occurs; another situation is that after the intestinal tract is emptied, it will send a signal to the center of the brain that needs to eat, thus generating a sense of hunger. If there is usually no discomfort, this is a normal phenomenon.

2. Pathological causes: such as hyperthyroidism, irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes mellitus, etc., prone to hunger and hyperphagia, after the bowel emptying will appear hunger symptoms. Irritable bowel syndrome can be accompanied by diarrhea, abdominal pain and other symptoms; diabetes mellitus can be accompanied by lethargy, polyuria, dry mouth and other symptoms; hyperthyroidism can be accompanied by insomnia, irritability, increased heart rate and other symptoms.
