The formula of Chai Hu, Chuan Xiong and Xiang Fu can serve to relieve Liver Depression and Qi Stagnation (poor Qi and blood transportation of the Liver and emotional depression) by relieving Liver Depression and Qi Stagnation (treating depression by unblocking the Liver’s Qi and blood transportation) and regulating Qi and relieving pain by regulating the body’s Qi. Chai Hu (柴胡), Chuan Xiong (川芎) and Xiang Fu (香附) all belong to the group of traditional Chinese medicines, of which Chai Hu (柴胡) can serve to clear the liver and regulate qi, Chuan Xiong (川芎) can serve to move qi and activate blood circulation and Xiang Fu (香附) can serve to clear the liver and resolve melancholy, regulate menstruation and stop pain (regulate menstruation and relieve pain during menstruation), and regulate qi and regulate the middle. Used together, the above three medicines can serve to dredge the liver and regulate qi, regulate menstruation and relieve pain (dredge the meridians and relieve pain), targeting mainly coercive and rib pain, chest pain, dizziness, depression, menstrual pain and menstrual irregularities caused by liver depression and stagnation of qi (poor transportation of qi and blood in the liver and depression of emotions and moods). However, Chai Hu should not be used for yin deficiency and hyperactivity of yang (deficiency of yin fluid and hyperactivity of yang), internal movement of liver wind, yin deficiency and hyperactivity of fire (deficiency of yin essence in the body and hyperactivity of deficiency fire occurs), and upward reversal of qi. Rhizoma Chuanxiong cannot be used in those with yin deficiency and hyperactivity of yang. The contraindications of Xiang Fu are not clear at this time. Consultation with a physician is recommended.
