Atrophy of the cerebellum indicates a degenerative lesion of the cerebellum, which can be caused by both hereditary and degenerative diseases, and can also be seen as a result of certain acute processes such as the late stages of acute cerebellitis, drug intoxication, etc. Some patients with cerebellar atrophy are clinically asymptomatic, but cerebellar atrophy can also be seen on imaging, and is more common in the elderly. The main causes of cerebellar atrophy include: genetic disorders, degenerative disorders, ischaemic and hypoxic disorders, drug intoxication, inflammatory disorders, alcoholism, and neuroparaneoplastic syndromes.
