Bone Marrow Transplantation Pretreatment After high-dose chemotherapy, it is best not to postpone bone marrow transplantation without special circumstances.
One of the reasons why patients relapse after bone marrow transplantation is the residual malignant tumor cells (e.g. leukemia cells) in the body. The purpose of pretreatment before bone marrow transplantation is to completely remove the tumor cells in the body so that the bone marrow transplantation will be successful and the rate of recurrence after bone marrow transplantation will be reduced. Therefore, pretreatment gives high doses of chemotherapeutic drugs to kill the malignant tumor cells in the body in preparation for bone marrow transplantation.
If bone marrow transplantation is delayed after pretreatment, there may still be proliferation of malignant tumor cells (e.g., leukocytes), which can affect the success rate of bone marrow transplantation or the rate of relapse after bone marrow transplantation may increase or lead to severe infection. Therefore, it is best not to postpone the pretreatment if it is tolerated by the body.
The bone marrow transplantation process should be completed under the guidance of a hospital doctor to avoid adverse reactions that may affect the therapeutic effect.
