When to undergo fundus laser treatment

The primary goal of fundus laser treatment is to control the condition and prevent further vision loss, not to improve vision. Fundus laser is an invasive, surgical treatment and is not indicated for all patients with diabetic retinopathy. 1. Conditions that do not require laser treatment: No retinopathy or mild non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Conditions in which laser treatment is recommended: non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy with clinically significant diabetic macular edema; severe non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy and proliferative diabetic retinopathy; combined iris neovascularization; moderate non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy with cataracts may be treated with fundus laser therapy earlier depending on the condition. 2. Conditions that are not suitable for laser treatment but should be treated with vitrectomy: severe vitreous hemorrhage, pre-retinal hemorrhage; progressive proliferative diabetic retinopathy; retinal detachment with retraction or retinal detachment of hole origin. The above mentioned makes diabetes aware of fundus laser treatment and diabetic retinopathy patients can definitely come out of the darkness and see the light again.
