Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin disease in which a polymorphic rash occurs in the sebaceous glands of hair follicles. It is mainly caused by abnormal androgen levels and exuberant sebaceous gland secretion, and manifests itself in the form of pimples, inflammatory papules, nodules and other symptoms. Treatment involves the use of topical medications, such as retinoids and benzoyl peroxide, as well as oral medications, such as isotretinoin and doxycycline.
