Cataract patients are older, have poor vision and inflexible movements, so it is often difficult to order eye drops, and it is best to have family members or caregivers order them on their behalf. Choose one kind of eye drops to dispense, usually one to two drops three times a day, to promote crystal metabolism and control cataract development. Eye drops should be ordered consistently and never interrupted.
The first thing is to clean your hands, put the patient in a reclining or sitting position with your head tilted upwards and your eyes open and looking upwards. Read the instructions on the bottle carefully before using the medicine, and use a cotton ball to clean around the eye to prevent dirt from entering the eye. The mouth of the bottle should not touch the eyelids or eyes, and fingers should not touch the mouth of the bottle to avoid contamination. To dispense the eye medication, separate the upper and lower eyelids with your index finger and thumb and place 1-2 drops in the conjunctival sac, then lift the upper eyelid slightly to keep the medication in the conjunctival sac as much as possible. Then gently close your eyes for three minutes. Do not let the mouth of the bottle touch your eyelids and eyelashes while applying the medication, and avoid placing the drops directly on the black eye. It is best to press the skin of the tear sac area for two to three minutes after dosing to prevent loss of eye medication through the lacrimal ducts and nasal ducts. The cap should be closed after each eye drop. Store in the refrigerator freezer, away from light. If tablets or powder are packed, they should be dissolved in the same package of drops before use. If there is inflammation in the diseased eye, the cataract medication should be withheld until the inflammation subsides. After opening the bottle, use the drops within 2-4 weeks. If it is too long or if there are cloudy substances and odor, discard it. Eye drops should be used openly with other topical medications to avoid confusion. Eye drops should be placed in a place where children should not play with them. Eye drops should be placed away from children. If you feel any itching, pain, local redness or swelling, stop using the medicine.
