How to read a lymph node biopsy pathology report

Lymph node biopsy pathology report, one is to look at the anatomical-pathological description, the second is to look at the type of pathology; the third is to look at the diagnosis. 1. Anatomic-pathologic description, including the location of the lymph nodes, the number of lymph nodes, the size of the lymph nodes and the hardness of the lymph node texture. 2. Pathologic type: mainly depends on whether the lymph nodes are benign or malignant lesions, which is the basis for deciding the principle of treatment. If it is malignant, it should be clear whether it is adenocarcinoma, squamous carcinoma or sarcoma, etc.; the differentiation type should be divided into highly differentiated, moderately differentiated, lowly differentiated and undifferentiated; the immunohistochemistry can indicate the expression of protein, which is a guide for the later treatment. 3. Diagnosis: Most of the biopsied lymph nodes can be clearly diagnosed, but for a small number of lymph nodes whose nature cannot be clearly defined, other tests are needed to assist the diagnosis, such as bone marrow aspiration. The pathology report of lymph node biopsy should be interpreted and explained by professional qualified pathologists and clinicians.
