Cerumen impaction in children is mainly caused by excessive cerumen production in the external auditory canal and obstruction of cerumen drainage. Excessive production of cerumen in the external auditory canal may be due to localized inflammation, rash, or dust contamination of the external auditory canal; frequent digging of the ear may cause localized irritation; or the cerumen glands themselves have a high secretion of cerumen, and therefore produce too much cerumen. In addition, narrowing of the external auditory canal, scarring, foreign bodies or even tumors can cause cerumen impaction by blocking the discharge of cerumen. If children’s cerumen impaction is not treated in time, it will make it difficult for sound waves to enter the ear canal and cause hearing loss. Parents should not pull out the earwax at home by themselves for their children, but should bring their children to the hospital in time to seek the help of doctors and remove them with the assistance of instruments.
