Is acanthosis nigricans a symptom of diabetes?

Some diabetic patients may show signs of acanthosis nigricans, which can be considered as one of the symptoms of diabetes. Typical symptoms of diabetes are “three more and one less”, i.e., dry mouth, excessive drinking, excessive urination, excessive eating, and weight loss. The onset of acanthosis nigricans may indicate the presence of diabetes or significant insulin resistance. Acanthosis nigricans is generally common in the obese population and is characterized by hyperkeratosis, hyperpigmentation, or papillomatous hyperplasia of the skin. In addition to the typical “three more and one less” symptoms of diabetes, some patients may also experience weakness, itchy skin, blurred vision and other symptoms. When the symptoms of acanthosis nigricans appear or when diabetes is suspected, you should go to the hospital in time for examination, and actively standardize the treatment after clarifying the condition.
