When to use the soother

Pacifiers can be started around 1-2 months of age and should be gradually discontinued as the baby grows older, around 2 years of age. As the name implies, a soother is a substitute for the mother’s nipple to soothe and help calm the baby. A baby can suck on a soother appropriately when he or she is crying, sleeping, during teething, and when there is discomfort or inability to adapt in a new environment. Babies can get satisfaction through proper sucking action after the full moon, which helps train their sucking and swallowing functions, promotes the development of oral and gastrointestinal peristalsis, and also helps babies develop the habit of nasal breathing. It is usually recommended that babies can use soothers after the full moon. Babies should gradually quit using soothers after the age of 2 to avoid long-term use that can cause oral deformities such as jaw rejection. Since the use of soothers is non-nutritive sucking, it does not normally affect your baby’s feeding, but if it does, you should quit immediately.
