Breastmilk can be kept for 6 months in a freezer at -18℃-20℃. If the temperature of the freezer is unstable (e.g. opening and closing the freezer door frequently) or does not reach -18℃-20℃, the shelf life of breastmilk will be shortened, usually to 3 months. Storing breastmilk requires attention to hygiene during milking to prevent bacterial contamination. The best way to store breastmilk is to use glass containers, rigid plastic containers or special breastmilk storage bags. Since frozen breastmilk needs to be consumed as soon as possible after thawing, it is appropriate to store 90-120ml of breastmilk per unit. Date labels should be affixed when storing, so that you can choose breastmilk that has been stored for a longer period of time within the shelf life according to the date labels when taking it out to improve the utilization rate. Avoid opening and closing the freezer door as often as possible during storage to ensure stable freezing temperature. When thawing, first thaw in the freezer at 4℃, then gradually warm up with warm water, shaking while heating to make the heat evenly, heating to about 40℃ can be. After thawing, try to finish it at once, refreezing will affect the quality of breastmilk. If conditions permit, parents are advised to feed with fresh milk as much as possible. The composition of the mother’s fresh milk matches the nutrients needed by the baby at this stage of growth, so the fresher the milk, the better for the baby’s growth.
