The efficacy and effects of Pinggong San are drying dampness and transporting the spleen, moving qi and harmonizing the stomach (regulating the stomach and internal organs by promoting the operation of qi); its side effects are not yet clear. Pinggong San is used for treating dampness stagnation in the spleen and stomach. Symptoms include distension and fullness of the epigastrium (abdomen), inappetence, tastelessness, nausea and vomiting, belching (hiccups), acid swallowing (swallowing of acid from the stomach upward to the oropharynx), heaviness of the limbs, and idleness and sleepiness. It is clinically used in the treatment of chronic gastritis, dysfunction of the digestive tract, gastric and duodenal ulcers, etc. which belong to dampness stagnation in the spleen and stomach. As this formula is hard, warm and dry, it is not suitable for those with deficiency of yin and stagnation of qi, and weakness of spleen and stomach.
