What are the symptoms of cervical cancer?

Vaginal bleeding: Irregular vaginal bleeding, especially contact bleeding (i.e. bleeding after sex or gynecological examination) and post-menopausal vaginal bleeding are the main symptoms of cervical cancer patients. Cauliflower-like cervical cancer bleeding is earlier and more frequent. Increased vaginal discharge: white and thin, watery, rice slop-like or bloody, with fishy odor. When the cancerous tissue breaks down and becomes infected, the discharge may be purulent with foul odor. Early symptoms The early symptoms of cervical cancer are mainly confined to the cervix, and when it has not spread to other surrounding tissues, patients with cervical cancer often have no symptoms. Many patients with cervical cancer have increased leucorrhea of different conditions and degrees, thin and watery or rice slop-like, with fishy odor. This is one of the early symptoms of cervical cancer. Early symptoms of cervical cancer are often bleeding after sexual intercourse or irregular menstruation or vaginal bleeding after menopause. At this time of gynecological examination, patients with cervical cancer will find that the surface of the cervix is smooth or erosion-like, hard and easy to bleed when touched. As the condition of cervical cancer develops and the tumor gradually increases, the patient will have increased leucorrhea. If the cancerous tissue is necrotic and infected, more foul-smelling leucorrhea mixed with blood will be discharged; the bleeding volume increases in the advanced stage of cervical cancer, and even fatal hemorrhage is caused by the erosion of larger blood vessels. The tumor of cervical cancer can be cauliflower-like, nodular or ulcerated locally, or cavity-like when the tumor is necrotic and falls off. Late symptoms Pain is a symptom of advanced cervical cancer. The cancer tumor extends along the parietal tissue, invades the pelvic wall and presses the peripheral nerve, which is clinically manifested as persistent pain in sciatic nerve or one side of sacrum and iliac region. The tumor compresses or encroaches on the ureter, and the narrowing and obstruction of the duct leads to hydronephrosis, which manifests as back pain on one side or even severe pain, and further develops into renal failure or even uremia. The invasion of lymphatic system leads to blockage of lymphatic vessels and obstruction of return flow, resulting in swelling and pain in the lower limbs and other symptoms. Systemic symptoms will appear in the late stage of cervical cancer. Fever is caused by metabolism of cancerous tissues, absorption of necrotic tissues or co-infection, and the body temperature is usually around 38℃, and a few can be over 39℃. Anemia, wasting and even cachexia will appear due to bleeding and consumption. Metastatic symptoms will appear in the late stage of cervical cancer, usually the cancer spreads to the front and can invade the bladder. Patients will experience frequent urination, urgent urination, painful urination, falling and hematuria, which are often misdiagnosed as urinary tract infection and delay the diagnosis. In severe cases, vesico-vaginal fistula can be formed. If the cancer spreads backward, it can invade the rectum, and there are symptoms such as cramping, difficulty in defecation, urgency and blood in the stool, etc. Further development can lead to vaginal-rectal fistula. Distant metastasis may occur in the advanced stage of the disease. The more common is supraclavicular lymph node metastasis, in which nodes or masses appear. Cancer infiltration can spread to distant organs through blood vessels or lymphatic system and metastases in corresponding areas and their corresponding symptoms can appear. Metabolism of late stage cervical cancer In late stage patients, metabolism of cancerous tissues, absorption of necrotic material, and infection lead to fever of the body, and the fever type is usually low fever, but a few can exceed 39℃, bleeding and tumor consumption affect metabolism and produce malignant fluid.
