Small white dots granular on the lips may be sebaceous ectasia, which is caused by physiological changes in the development of sebaceous glands and sebaceous gland hyperplasia of the lips. It is not harmful to the body and does not cause any discomfort, so there is no need to worry too much. In addition to the lips, ectopic sebaceous glands are often found in the buccal mucosa of the mouth, external genitalia, areola and other parts of the body. Sebaceous glands appear as pale yellow granular patches that are widely distributed under the epidermis of the skin. Normally, the sebaceous glands are located in the deeper layers and their appearance will not be visible due to the color of the blood vessels and the covering of the tissues above them. As the sebaceous glands move from the lamina propria under the skin to the epidermis, they appear as small white spots, usually in clusters. They feel like small pieces of sand. They are not harmful to touch or press and therefore do not harm the body and therefore usually do not require treatment. Patients are advised to seek prompt medical attention for a definitive diagnosis.
