Abstract: The patient in this article was diagnosed with damp-heat-embedded spleen syndrome due to frequent drowsiness, lack of energy, and often poor concentration, as well as sticky stools and a pronounced feeling of body heaviness. This condition is often caused by poor diet and irregular living, which leads to such physical changes over time. The patient’s body heaviness and sticky stools were significantly reduced and his mental state was good. The patient is a 56-year-old male, with a busy schedule, smoking and drinking, and a good mental state. He smokes and drinks a lot and does not rest well. Now he feels drowsy and weak, and feels that he has little energy, and his stools are sticky and unpleasant. The patient’s face is flushed, he reports tinnitus and dry mouth, sweating more, which is obvious above the chest and head, good appetite for food, sticky and unpleasant stools, red tongue with yellowish coating and slippery pulse. Based on the patient’s tongue, pulse and symptoms, the patient is considered to belong to the TCM evidence of dampness and heat in the spleen, and needs to be treated by strengthening the spleen, resolving dampness and clearing heat and eliminating turbidity. The patient is usually busy and has irregular living habits, which can easily lead to dysfunction of the internal organs and the retention of damp-heat in the spleen and stomach, resulting in damp-heat-embedded spleen evidence. According to the TCM system of identification, we applied the method of clearing heat, promoting dampness, strengthening the spleen and draining turbidity, and gave San Ren Tang oral treatment, and returned to the clinic after 1 week. At the second visit, the patient’s tiredness and fatigue were reduced and sweating was slightly improved, but he still had sticky stools and tinnitus and dry mouth, so he added raw gypsum, psyllium and gardenia to the original formula. At the second consultation, the patient’s dry mouth improved, tinnitus slightly reduced, stools still sticky, red face, the above basis to add Huang Lian to clear heat and dry dampness. At the time of follow-up, the patient’s stool was basically formed, facial flushing improved, dry mouth and tinnitus reduced, the patient has been taking oral Chinese medicine soup for 1.5 months, according to the changes in the patient’s symptoms and changes in tongue and pulse after treatment, damp-heat has been removed for the most part, still use San Ren Tang to continue consolidation treatment for half a month. The patient was treated for 2 months from the initial consultation to the final consultation. After the TCM evidence-based treatment, the patient’s many discomforting symptoms caused by damp-heat in the spleen were greatly improved. The patient’s symptoms were resolved after the TCM identification treatment, and the patient felt a marked difference in her physical and mental state compared with that before the treatment. The patient needs to quit smoking and drinking because smoking and drinking is one of the many causes of damp-heat problems. The physical state of damp-heat in the spleen is related to many factors such as irregular life, frequent staying up late, greasy diet, greedy for cold drinks or easy depression. relaxation and avoid anxious and depressed psychological state. In addition to quitting smoking and drinking, one should also go to bed early and get up early to maintain a better lifestyle, eat a light diet, have a full belly, and actively participate in sports, which will promote the body’s metabolism, enable the body to clear heat and drain dampness, and maintain normal spleen and stomach functions. V. Personal insight Dampness and heat in the spleen body state is likely to last longer, especially for people with poor living habits, smoking and drinking, and uncontrolled diet, dampness and heat stagnation, difficult to get rid of. Even if the symptoms improve after a period of treatment, bad habits and diet, and bad emotional problems can still lead to the reappearance of damp-heat-containing spleen symptoms. Therefore, in addition to herbal treatment, we need to actively improve our emotional state and regulate our lifestyle to double the effect of treatment, but we still need to pay attention to both internal and external factors to prevent the re-emergence of damp-heat in the spleen.
