Which uterine fibroids require surgery?

Uterine fibroids are the most common disease in gynecology and can occur in about 10% of women in the population. If the fibroids are small and asymptomatic, no treatment is needed, only follow-up observation is required, usually a gynecological examination and ultrasound once in 3-6 months. However, the following cases require surgical treatment: 1. In terms of size, usually fibroids > 5 cm and uterine body enlargement like the size of 3rd trimester. Uterine submucosal fibroids need surgery regardless of their size. 2.Symptomatically, if excessive menstrual flow, secondary anemia and pressure on the bladder producing frequent urination or difficulty in urination, or pressure on the rectum producing difficulty in defecation occur, surgery is needed regardless of the size of the fibroid. 3.If the fibroid grows rapidly in a short period of time and the ultrasound indicates abundant blood flow, malignant changes cannot be excluded. 4.When the fibroids are larger than 4 cm in diameter in preparation for pregnancy. 5.Fibroids in the cervical area of the uterus.
