Does a cold affect a thyroid test?

The most common clinical tests for suspected thyroid disease are thyroid function tests and ultrasound of the thyroid gland. A cold will not affect the results of these two tests much, so in case of a cold, tests related to thyroid disorders can be performed. However, it is still advisable to perform these examinations only after the cold has recovered, because the cold itself is an inflammation of the nasopharynx caused by viral and bacterial infections, which mainly manifests itself as cough, sore throat, and even fever, and requires active treatment. Otherwise, in the case of a cold, even if thyroid disease is detected, it is impossible to develop a practical, effective and targeted treatment plan, thus affecting the recovery of thyroid disease.
