Most of the endometrial polyps are formed due to the overgrowth of the endometrium caused by the abnormal secretion of estrogen. After menopause, the secretion of estrogen will drop to a very low level, so the endometrium will not continue to grow after menopause, and the endometrial polyps will stop growing. However, the endometrial polyps that were formed before menopause may shrink and become smaller after menopause. Endometrial polyps may also become malignant. Although the likelihood is low, it is recommended that a hysteroscopy be performed to confirm the diagnosis and, if necessary, an electrosurgical endometrial resection be performed if endometrial polyps are present.
