Eszopiclone taken at bedtime usually gives 4 to 10 hours of sleep, which varies from person to person depending on a number of factors.
Eszopiclone is a medium to long-acting benzodiazepine with a half-life of 10 to 24 hours. The duration of sleep for the person taking it depends mainly on (including but not limited to):
1. the severity of symptoms such as insomnia/anxiety/fear.
2. the presence of other psychiatric/somatic co-morbidities and the severity of the other illnesses
3. whether it is used concurrently with other drugs/substances, e.g. alcohol, analgesics, antihypertensive drugs, etc.
4. hepatic metabolic potency, renal clearance efficiency of the person taking the drug.
Eszopiclone can cause side effects such as dry mouth, dizziness, fatigue, etc. Long-term use will produce dependence, discontinuation of the drug may produce withdrawal symptoms, so it is usually taken intermittently as needed, not daily. The drug has a risk of teratogenicity, pregnant women are prohibited; also can not be used with opioids (morphine, fentanyl, etc.).
If you need to use the drug, the specific dosage and usage should follow the doctor’s instructions, do not use privately.
