How to check your liver

Methods of checking the liver include blood tests for liver function, imaging tests, and liver puncture. 1. Liver function: blood test for liver function can indicate abnormalities in liver function. Indicators such as alanine aminotransferase (AST) and glutamic oxalate aminotransferase (GOT) reflect the damage of liver cells. Total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, indirect bilirubin and other indicators reflect the liver’s biotransformation function, which can help to clarify whether there is biliary obstruction and identify the type of obstruction. Total protein, albumin and other indicators reflect the synthesis function of the liver. 2. Imaging examination: Liver ultrasound can observe the appearance and morphology of the liver, which is helpful for the diagnosis of fatty liver, liver cysts, hepatic hemangiomas, intrahepatic bile duct stones, hepatocellular carcinoma, cirrhosis and other diseases. Liver CT and nuclear magnetic resonance are more often used in the diagnosis of liver occupying diseases, which can help to clarify the morphology, outline, hemorrhage and blood supply of the tumor, and can provide a reliable basis for the surgical treatment of liver tumors. 3. Liver puncture: i.e. liver puncture biopsy, which is invasive and not as a routine means of examination. Liver puncture is usually applied to liver function abnormality of unknown cause, differential diagnosis of chronic liver disease and cytological examination of liver tumor. After the occurrence of liver diseases, one should consult the doctor in time, and the specialist should choose the appropriate examination method according to the condition, in order to help clarify the diagnosis and provide a reliable auxiliary examination basis for the subsequent treatment.
