Berg Balance Scale Scoring Criteria

The Berg Balance Scale is a scale of 14 items that requires the patient to follow these instructions. 14 items are: 1. stand up from the seat. 2. stand without support. 3. do not sit directly against the back of the chair, but place your feet on the floor or on a stool. 4. sit down from a standing position. 5. put another chair in place and have the patient transfer to a chair with armrests, and a chair without armrests. 6. and to a chair without armrests.6. Stand on their own with eyes closed without holding on to something else.7. Bring both feet together and stand without holding on to something.8. Stretch hands forward and move forward while standing.9. Pick up objects from the floor while standing, and can pick up shoes placed in front of the feet.10. Turn around and look backwards while standing, to look directly behind.11. Turn 360 degrees and complete one week.12. Put one foot on the step or stool and alternate feet to step on it, a total of 4 times. 13.One foot in front, one foot behind, not holding on to something else to stand. 14.Standing on one leg. Each 1 of the above 14 items has a score of 0-4, and the patient is scored according to how well they can do it, and the total score is added at the end. The highest score is 56 and the lowest score is 0. The higher the score indicates that the patient’s balance is better, when it is less than 40, the patient is at risk of falling, at 41-56 it suggests good balance function, 21-40 is some balance ability, and if it is 0-20 it requires a wheelchair.
