How to apply Astragalus

Astragalus has the effects of tonifying qi and elevating yang (tonifying qi so that yang qi can rise), consolidating the surface and stopping sweating (stopping sweating by consolidating the surface of the muscle), inducing diuresis and eliminating edema (relieving urination and eliminating water retention), and astringing sores and promoting growth of muscle (helping sores to heal faster and promoting the growth of new flesh), etc. It is mostly used in conjunction with other medicines. It is suitable to be used to replenish qi and elevate yang, while the rest are mostly used in raw form. 1. For weak spleen qi (spleen qi weakness): Astragalus has the effect of tonifying the spleen qi, and is often used in combination with other drugs such as Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng and Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae to treat loss of appetite, abdominal distension after meals, and loose stools caused by spleen deficiency. 2. For Qi subsidence (deficiency of spleen and stomach qi, manifestation of visceral organs falling down), prolapse of organs: Astragalus has the function of tonifying qi (treating deficiency of qi by tonifying the spleen), elevating yang and lifting subsidence (elevating yang qi of the organism in order to lift up the subsiding organs), and it is mostly used in conjunction with ginseng, Chaihu, and Shengmu for prolapse of anus and gastric ptosis caused by qi deficiency and subsidence. 3. For urinary edema: for urinary edema caused by weak spleen qi (weak spleen qi), inability to transport and transform water and liquid, fatigue and weakness, loss of appetite, and loose stools, it is often combined with Atractylodes macrocephala, Chen Pi, and Poria. 4. For sores that do not close for a long time: Astragalus can support the sores and muscles, for pus into a long time not ulcerated, more with Angelica, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, Soapwort; sores that do not close for a long time after the ulcer, more with Paeoniae Alba, Salviae Miltiorrhizae, pollen. This product should be used to replenish qi and elevate yang, while the rest should be used raw. The adverse effects and contraindications of this product are not clear.
