Iodophor is usually not diluted for glans washing. Medical povidone iodine is less concentrated, usually less than or equal to 1%. Povidone-iodine can be applied to the glans to treat mycosis fungoides or genital herpes. Povidone iodine is an indeterminate conjugate of monomeric iodine and polyvinylpyrrolidone, which has a broad-spectrum bactericidal effect, killing bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and some viruses, and is used medically as a bactericidal and disinfectant agent, and can be used to disinfect mucous membranes of the skin. Since povidone-iodine does not contain alcohol, it is less irritating and can be used not only for surgical skin disinfection, but also for disinfection of mucous membranes, genitals and incision wounds. Disinfection with povidone-iodine can achieve both disinfection and no irritating pain. Povidone-iodine can play an auxiliary therapeutic effect for glans diseases, and it is recommended that patients use the medication in strict accordance with the doctor’s instructions.
