Astragalus has the effects of tonifying qi and elevating yang (tonifying qi so that yang qi rises), stopping sweating (stopping sweating by consolidating the surface of the muscle), inducing diuresis and eliminating oedema (relieving urination and eliminating oedema), generating fluids and replenishing blood, promoting stagnation and paralysis, supporting toxins and transmitting pus, and restoring sores to the muscle (helping sores to heal more quickly, and promoting the growth of new flesh); and Duchenne has the effects of tonifying the liver and kidneys, strengthening the sinews and bones and settling the foetus.
Astragalus is the dried root of Astragalus membranaceus or Astragalus membranaceus, family Leguminosae, sweet in taste, slightly warm in nature, belonging to the lung and spleen meridians, and is mainly used for the treatment of weakness, fatigue, anorexia and loose stools (thin and unshaped feces), blood in the stools and leakage of blood (menstrual bleeding, or excessive or incessant menstruation), deficiency of qi and oedema, sores and ulcers that are difficult to break down, and long-time ulcers that do not converge, and so on. It should be noted that it is not suitable for those who are suffering from superficial solidity and evil, with sores at the beginning of ulcers, or those who are still full of heat and toxicity after ulcers have been broken.
Cortex Eucommiae is the dried bark of Cortex Eucommiae, family Cortex Eucommiae, which is sweet in taste, warm in nature, and belongs to the liver and kidney meridians. It is mainly used for treating liver and kidney deficiencies, lumbar and knee pains, weakness of the limbs, dizziness, bleeding in pregnancy, and restlessness of the fetus. It should be used with caution in cases of yin deficiency and fire exuberance (deficiency of yin and essence in the body, resulting in hyperactivity of deficiency fire).
If you are using Astragalus or Cortex Eucommiae, please consult a professional Chinese medicine practitioner and follow the doctor’s instructions.
