What causes glomerulonephritis?

The causes of glomerulonephritis mainly include infection, immune system disease, underlying chronic disease, malignant tumor and so on.
1. Infection: β-hemolytic streptococcal infection is the most important cause of acute glomerulonephritis, in addition, other pathogens such as hepatitis B virus, human immunodeficiency virus, schistosomiasis and other infections can cause glomerulonephritis.
2. Immune system disorders: common ones are systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, pulmonary hemorrhage- nephritis syndrome, etc. The abnormalities of the immune system cause immune-related substances to be deposited on the glomerular tunica and glomerular basement membrane, which leads to inflammatory reactions.
3. Underlying chronic diseases: diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and other chronic diseases can cause damage to glomerular blood vessels, which is related to the development of chronic nephritis.
4. Malignant tumor: malignant tumor diseases such as leukemia, myeloma, lymphoma, etc., are also the cause of some glomerulonephritis.
In addition, genetic factors, exposure to toxic and harmful substances such as heavy metals mercury and lead are also causes of glomerulonephritis.
Patients with glomerulonephritis are advised to go to the hospital for further treatment under the guidance of physicians.
