The treatment process for patients with high myopia

This process is suitable for patients who come to see Dr. Wang Xiaoying at Shanghai Five Glaucoma Hospital Ophthalmology Department. For better, more convenient and time saving, the following process is recommended: If arranged properly, (without astigmatism lens) the fastest patients can see the doctor on day 1 for examination + 1-2 days of pre-op preparation + 1 day of surgery = 3-4 days to complete the surgery, 3-5 days of post-op observation, and go home in 1 week. Patients with astigmatic lens: 1st day visit for examination + 1 day preoperative preparation, then go home, we will notify you when the lens arrives, come directly to the surgery, and go home after 3-5 days of postoperative observation. I have more numbers reserved for high myopia patients (especially those who need IOL implantation) in my Monday-Thursday morning special expert clinic. You can come directly to my clinic and ask for an extra number. If you can’t get a number, you can come up to me and ask for an additional number. (The principle is to basically consider patients who want surgery.) For patients who come on Wednesday, I don’t have a specialist number because of surgery, so you can register for a refractive number to see the general clinic and do an examination first. Dr. Wang will contact you. Eye examination, stop wearing contact lenses for 1 week (soft) and 2-3 weeks (RGP or rigid) before the examination. Determine if the eye condition is suitable for surgery: (about 800 RMB, takes 2-3 hours) (1) Routine eye examination: cornea, lens, fundus, intraocular pressure, etc. (2) Refractive examination: dilated pupil examination. (3) IOL prescription determination: anterior chamber depth, eye axis, corneal curvature, horizontal diameter of cornea, etc. (4) Depending on the patient’s specific situation, some other further tests may be performed, such as fundus OCT, visual field, UBM, etc. To determine if the eye condition is capable of surgery, as well as to predict the post-surgical visual acuity results, the doctor and the patient communicate to determine whether to proceed with the surgery (this is very important and must be confirmed by Director Xiaoying Wang. Some patients who seemed to have no hope ended up with very good results): Step 2, after it is clear that the surgery can be performed 1. Examination and surgery process: Appointment for blood sampling and laboratory tests, UBM, now the new crystals can dispense with iris perforation, which is more convenient, fast and minimally invasive 2. Scheduled crystals (without astigmatism usually arrive in 2-3 days, with astigmatism crystals take 4-8 weeks) and appointment for surgery date. Step 3, Intraocular Refractive Lens Implantation Surgery 1-3 days before surgery, you should start to order antibiotic drops (such as ofloxacin, tobramycin, etc.) in both eyes to prevent infection. We will try to take care of out-of-town patients as early as possible and observe about 4-7 days after surgery according to the recovery situation. The fourth step is regular postoperative examination: outpatient examination on the first day after surgery, followed by regular re-examination according to the specific situation, usually 1 week after surgery, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 2 years after surgery, etc. There is a gradual recovery process after surgery. If the doctor judges that the current situation is stable, you can go home for observation, and the situation is generally stable for 3 months after surgery. It is better to be able to come back to our hospital once in a year for follow-up, or at least to check in the local hospital and tell us the results by phone Out-of-town patients can make an appointment with Dr. Wang online in advance, some preparation is done in advance to save time and energy.
