How to treat a tight throat that makes swallowing difficult

Tightness in the throat and difficulty in swallowing may be associated with conditions such as epiglottis cysts, penile syndrome, and reflux pharyngitis. General treatment, medication and surgery should be chosen according to the cause and characteristics of the disease.
1. Epiglottis cyst: Mucous cysts grow when the mucous gland ducts of epiglottis valley and epiglottis lingual surface are blocked. With the gradual increase of the swelling, when it stimulates the sensory nerves of the pharynx, it can trigger the feeling of tightness in the throat and the sensation of foreign body and dysphagia when swallowing. In this disease, laryngoscopic excision of epiglottis cysts is mainly adopted, and laser electrocautery is used to deal with the base of the cyst to reduce recurrence.
2. Stromal Syndrome: The stromal protuberance gradually ossifies during development, and is prone to irritate and compress the adjacent blood vessels or nerves when swallowing, turning the head and deep breathing, resulting in symptoms such as itchy or tight throat, which leads to the symptom of a tense throat and difficulty in swallowing. Surgical amputation of the overgrown stoma is the most effective treatment.
3. Reflux pharyngitis: after the stomach contents reflux to the throat, gastric acid and pepsin and other digestive fluids damage and stimulate the mucous membrane of the throat, which can cause tightness of the throat and symptoms of difficulty in swallowing. On the basis of life management such as light diet and small meals, acid-suppressing drugs such as omeprazole and gastrointestinal-promoting drugs such as mosapride can be taken orally. Surgical treatment such as fundoplication can be chosen if conservative treatment is ineffective.
In addition to the above diseases, esophageal related diseases can also cause throat discomfort and dysphagia, so when you feel tight throat and difficulty swallowing, it is recommended to actively seek medical treatment, multidisciplinary systematic examination, clear diagnosis, and standardized treatment in accordance with the doctor’s instructions.
