HBV genotypes can be divided into 8 types A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H. HBV genotypes are distributed in different regions of the world with different genotype distributions; type A is distributed worldwide, types B and C are mainly distributed in Asia, type D is mainly distributed in the Americas, Southern Europe, Australia, and the Middle East, type E is mainly distributed in Africa, type F is distributed in the Native Americans and Polynesia, type G is distributed in the Americas, and type H found in the United States. In China, 284 cases of chronic HBV infection showed that the genotype composition was mainly c-type and B-type, with 73.2% of C-type and 26.2% of B-type, respectively, and only one case each of D-type and mixed B and C-type. In the area south of the Yangtze River, genotype B accounted for 55% of the cases, while genotype C accounted for 81.6% of the cases north of the Yangtze River. Genotype C was prevalent throughout the country, while genotypes E, F, G and H were not found in China.
