There are many types of fibroid degeneration, which may be benign or malignant. The types of degeneration of uterine fibroids are classified as glassy, cystic, red, fish-like or sarcoma-like degeneration of uterine fibroids, which are all types of fibroid degeneration. In the case of benign ones, such as vitreous or cystic, most of them can be followed and observed without too serious consequences. However, if sarcoma-like changes occur, symptomatic treatment is needed urgently, and surgical removal may be followed by radiation and chemotherapy. Normally, uterine fibroids smaller than 5 cm, without symptoms or degeneration can be followed up and observed, while those larger than 5 cm or with symptoms or degeneration need surgery.
