Some questions about chemotherapy for ovarian cancer (I)

1.What is chemotherapy? Chemotherapy refers to the application of anti-tumor drugs (including cytotoxic drugs, targeted drugs and endocrine drugs, etc.) to control or remove malignant tumors. 2.Does ovarian cancer need chemotherapy? Most ovarian cancers need chemotherapy, only a very small percentage of early stage ovarian cancers do not need chemotherapy after surgical treatment, that is, they can be cured by surgery alone. 3. What is neoadjuvant chemotherapy? Therefore, one to three courses of chemotherapy are needed before surgery in order to shrink the tumor, improve the surgical resection rate and reduce anesthesia and surgical risks, which is called neoadjuvant chemotherapy. 4.Which ovarian cancer patients need to receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy? For those patients with advanced ovarian cancer, neoadjuvant chemotherapy is considered when the specialist integrates the CT, MR or other imaging results, blood test results and gynecological examination of the patient and determines that it is difficult to completely remove all the tumors by direct surgery. 5.What is postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy? How many cycles of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy are needed? The treatment of ovarian cancer includes surgery and chemotherapy. Except for very few very early stage ovarian cancers that do not need chemotherapy after surgery, the majority of ovarian cancers need chemotherapy after surgery to achieve the best therapeutic effect, and this part of chemotherapy is called postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. This part of chemotherapy is called postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Early stage ovarian cancer requires 3 to 6 cycles of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy (i.e. 3-6 courses of treatment, courses usually refer to chemotherapy cycles), and intermediate to advanced stage ovarian cancer requires 6 to 8 cycles of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. 6.How long does it take for chemotherapy to show the efficacy? Chemotherapy usually takes 2 to 3 cycles to show the efficacy, and the duration of each cycle is usually 3 to 4 weeks.
