What to do if your 2 year old has hard earwax in his ears

Earwax and cerumen, parents of two-year-old babies with hard earwax in their ears should be careful not to deal with it at home on their own, they can go to the hospital for consultation, and have it removed by specialists using tweezers, hooking method, and external auditory canal flushing method. 1. Smaller or flaky earwax may fall off by itself and can be removed with tweezers if necessary. 2. Cerumen hooking method: For deeper earwax, a specialist is required. Gently extend the cerumen hook along the posterior and superior wall of the external auditory canal and between the cerumen plug and the cerumen plug to the deeper part of the external auditory canal, taking care not to go too deep to prevent damage to the tympanic membrane, and then gently rotate the cerumen hook to catch the cerumen plug and hook it out. 3. External auditory canal flushing method: This method can be used for those who have difficulty in removing cerumen by the above methods. Before rinsing, the cerumen should be inflated first, and 5%-10% sodium bicarbonate solution should be used as ear drops once every 0.5~1 hour, and then rinsed after 3~4 days when all or part of the cerumen has been inflated. Parents should pay attention to the fact that frequent ear digging can push the cerumen into the deeper part of the external auditory canal, so avoid digging the baby’s ear on your own frequently.
