Where do the causes of hydrocephalus come from?

Hydrocephalus is very common in life, and the incidence of hydrocephalus is increasing. Hydrocephalus prevention has become the focus of attention. Starting from the causes of hydrocephalus onset, hydrocephalus prevention can be effectively carried out to reduce the incidence of hydrocephalus. So, where do the causes of hydrocephalus come from? Let’s ask the experts to introduce it for us. Where do the causes of hydrocephalus come from? Hydrocephalus can be caused by the following three factors: overproduction of cerebrospinal fluid; obstruction of the pathways of cerebrospinal fluid and impaired absorption of cerebrospinal fluid. The cause of congenital hydrocephalus is currently thought to be obstruction of the cerebrospinal fluid circulation pathway. The causes of obstruction can be divided into two categories: congenital developmental anomalies and non-developmental etiologies. 1, congenital developmental abnormalities (1) cerebral aqueduct stenosis, gliosis and septum formation: the above lesions can lead to infarction of the cerebral aqueduct, which is the most common cause of congenital hydrocephalus, usually sporadic, and sex-linked genetic aqueduct stenosis accounts for only 2% of all congenital hydrocephalus. (2) Flat skull base: often combined with Arnold-Chiari malformation, which obstructs the outlet of the fourth ventricle or the cricoid pool and causes hydrocephalus. (3) Other: anencephalic gyrus malformation, chondrodysplasia, cerebral penetration malformation, fifth and sixth ventricular cysts, etc. can cause hydrocephalus. 2.Non-developmental causes In congenital hydrocephalus, congenital developmental abnormalities account for about 2/5, while non-developmental causes account for 3/5. Intracranial hemorrhage due to neonatal hypoxia and birth injury, meningitis secondary to adhesions are common causes of congenital hydrocephalus. Neonatal intracranial tumors and cysts, especially posterior cranial fossa tumors and choroid plexus papillomas, also frequently cause hydrocephalus.
