In autumn and winter, the weather is dry, the baby’s skin is thin and tender, and the skin is prone to dryness and cracking. Especially eczema babies are more likely to have dry skin, increased skin moisture loss and reduced moisture retention function due to the natural skin barrier function defect, reduced skin lipid secretion and lack of natural moisturizing factors, so emollients are especially important. Emollients (moisturizers) not only improve the dryness of the skin and reduce itching, but also improve the barrier function of the skin, reduce the stimulation of environmental factors, and resist the invasion of allergens into the skin. Parents should remember to moisturize the skin as a basic daily care for their eczema babies. It is recommended to apply emollient to the baby’s whole body twice a day, once preferably after bathing and drying the body, and another time in the morning. If you have a rash, you can apply topical medication first as prescribed by your doctor, and the emollient can be applied over the medication, or you can use the emollient instead of topical medication and keep applying it every day after the rash subsides. Many parents believe that their baby has eczema because of skin allergies and are afraid that using emollients will irritate their baby’s skin. In order to avoid adverse reactions to emollients, parents are advised to select emollients designed for babies with allergic skin, without additives or fragrances, and try them on the inside of the baby’s wrist for a few days before applying them all over the body, so that no local skin redness and itchiness is suitable for the baby.
