Diabetes affects “sexually happy” life

80% to 90% of diabetic patients are accompanied by different degrees of sexual function decline, which is mostly manifested as erectile dysfunction (ED) in men and cold sexual desire in women! Some patients do not realize that this is the harm brought about by diabetes, and are embarrassed to tell their doctors, which eventually affects their quality of life, and even some have divorced. Sexual dysfunction aggravated with the disease Research shows that: the symptoms of sexual dysfunction in diabetic patients gradually aggravated with the aggravation of the disease. Patients initially have a normal sexual desire, can ejaculate and orgasm, only the symptoms of erectile insecurity. As the duration of diabetes increases, it can gradually develop into complete impotence. Why are diabetic patients prone to sexual dysfunction? This is because high blood sugar can cause polyol deposition on nerve fibers and thus can cause degeneration of nerve fibers and loss of function. Peripheral nerve lesions can affect the sense of touch in the penis, thus reducing the erectile response. If the autonomic nerves on the penile corpus cavernosum are damaged, the regulation of blood vessels in the erectile tissue can be uncontrolled, so the filling of the corpus cavernosum cannot be completed. In addition, the arteries of diabetic patients are prone to atherosclerotic plaques that narrow the lumen of the blood vessels and thicken the basement membrane of the capillaries in the penile corpus cavernosum, thus reducing the blood supply and affecting erection. Diabetes can also lower the patient’s sex hormone levels, which can affect sexual function. Hypertension is a complication in 40% to 60% of diabetic patients, and most antihypertensive drugs cause ED. According to statistics, about 1% to 2% of diabetic patients experience retrograde ejaculation, in which semen is not ejaculated from the external urethra during orgasm, but flows backwards into the bladder, which is related to damage to the patient’s vegetative nerves that innervate the bladder neck, which should be in a closed state during ejaculation and becomes open. Impotence can be one of the earlier symptoms of diabetes, and doctors recommend that a relevant diabetes test should be performed when impotence is present. If diabetes is confirmed, it must be treated aggressively with a carefully controlled diet and regular application of hypoglycemic medication. When diabetes is controlled, impotence symptoms can also be improved. The sexual life of diabetic patients depends on each person’s situation. Those who have a light condition and are also light in age and have a normal sexual desire can have a normal sexual life, but in moderation; those who have a heavier condition and are older, although they have the requirement for sex, they should reduce it by 2/3 compared to normal people, and they should change the way of sexual life and stop in moderation. Not only should you avoid intense action intercourse, but you should focus your sex life on caressing. Female patients don’t ignore sexual frigidity Many men with diabetes come to the doctor with sexual dysfunction as the main cause of complaint, but women rarely mention it. Diabetes can cause cold sexual desire, vulvar itching, dryness and painful intercourse in women, but those who come to the hospital are seen for vulvar itching. For cold libido, many female patients either find it difficult to talk about it or simply do not realize that it is also a disease. In fact, the sexual function of female diabetic patients should not be ignored. In addition to the lack of orgasm in some patients, some female patients have slightly reduced vaginal lubrication, autonomic nerve damage that makes the vagina less sensitive and prone to vaginal infection, which leads to painful intercourse. If treated actively, their sexual dysfunction can also be improved and their quality of life will be enhanced. People with diabetes have to take or (and) inject insulin regularly and quantitatively, and they need to pay attention to their diet in general. Therefore, the condition affects the quality of life of the whole person.
