Can you grow back your fingernail caps after they fall off?

Nail caps can usually grow back when they fall off. As long as the nail bed and nail matrix are not destroyed, they can usually grow back. Normally, the nail bed is the tissue located underneath the nail and is the support for the nail to grow out; if the nail bed is damaged, then the nail will not grow normally. The nail matrix, located at the root of the nail, is a specialized epithelial structure that is rich in capillaries, lymphatic vessels, and nerves, and produces the keratinocytes that make up the nail, which in turn make up the nail plate. Therefore, if the nail matrix is damaged, then the growth of the nail will be affected. Patients with nail damage are advised to go to a regular hospital for timely treatment.
