The treatment goal of intestinal obstruction in advanced stage of intestinal cancer is to relieve obstruction, alleviate patients’ pain and improve their quality of life. Specific treatments need to be combined with tumor location (right colon cancer, left colon cancer, rectal cancer, etc.), and commonly used methods include colostomy, local therapies such as cauterization, laser freezing, etc., placing metal stent and intestinal obstruction catheter. 1. Colorectal cancer: if right colon cancer complicates with intestinal obstruction, ileo-transverse colon anastomosis can be considered; if left colon cancer complicates with intestinal obstruction, metal stent can be put in to alleviate the obstruction or transverse colostomy can be performed at the front end of the obstruction site. 2. If rectal cancer complicates intestinal obstruction, sigmoidostomy can be considered; if the patient cannot tolerate surgery, cauterization, laser or cryotherapy can be chosen; metal bracket or intestinal obstruction catheter can also be placed to alleviate the obstruction symptoms. Complicated with intestinal obstruction in late stage of intestinal cancer, it often causes water-electrolyte disorder and acid-base imbalance, which leads to a series of serious complications. Therefore, once the symptoms of intestinal obstruction appear, it should be treated as early as possible, and the best treatment should be chosen under the guidance of physicians, so as to avoid aggravation of the condition.
