How long does it take for a hamstring strain to heal

Hamstring strains usually recover in 5-6 weeks and are commonly seen in sprinting, long-distance running, long jumping, and badminton. The clinical presentation is limited pressure and pain in the posterior aspect of the thigh, at the sciatic tuberosity stop, which may be torn and radiating downward, or localized swelling and subcutaneous petechiae may occur. In case of complete rupture, local indentation may be palpated. The resistance knee flexion test can clarify the pressure point, which is the site of injury. Treatment includes rest and braking, cold compresses, local compression bandages, and symptomatic treatment during the acute phase, and physical therapy and gradual functional exercise after the condition has stabilized. In case of complete rupture or rapid swelling and obvious hematoma, surgery should be performed to stop the bleeding, remove the blood clot, suture the severed end, and fix it in a plaster cast for 5-6 weeks for complete recovery.
