How to rehab a stiff knee that won’t bend

A stiff knee that cannot bend is usually due to contractures and adhesions in the tissues around the joint caused by inflammation or trauma or surgery. Rehabilitation training can be carried out by means of leg drop beside the bed, passive knee joint exercises and active knee joint exercises.
1. Leg drop by the bedside: after local hot compresses soften the adhesive tissues, sitting on the edge of the bed, with the lower leg drooping and relying on the effect of gravity, the knee joint can usually reach 90 degrees of curvature.
2. Passive exercise: after the knee joint reaches 90 degrees of curvature, the patient can hold the knee with both hands and close to his own body to carry out passive knee flexion training.
3. Active training: When the passive knee flexion reaches a certain degree and the patient can tolerate it, active knee training can be carried out. The following squatting training and weighted squatting training, further enhance the muscle strength around the knee joint, increase knee mobility.
Note that knee stiffness may also be caused by arthritis and other reasons, it is recommended that patients seek medical attention in a timely manner to clarify the cause of knee stiffness, exercise under the guidance of the doctor, so as not to exercise in an inappropriate way caused by the body injury.
