Snoring, nasal breath with sound. Snoring, also known as “snoring”, “snoring”, commonly known as “snoring”, is a widespread sleep phenomenon, which is produced by the fluttering of the tongue and soft palate due to obstructed breathing during sleep. It is a coarse sound in the throat due to the fluttering of the tongue and soft palate during sleep. It is characterized by the sound of snoring in the larynx as long as the person sleeps, whether at night or during the day, and can occur continuously or intermittently. The diagnosis can be made based on clinical symptoms. If it happens once in a while due to excessive fatigue or improper sleeping posture, it can be temporarily observed and not treated as a pathology. It is equivalent to the western medicine sleep apnea syndrome OSAS (obstructive type, central type, mixed type), with clinical manifestations of severe snoring, breath-holding, nocturnal apnea, sleepwalking, enuresis and daytime sleepiness, and may also be accompanied by cardiovascular and respiratory system secondary diseases. As snoring causes repeated pauses in sleep breathing, it causes severe hypoxia of brain and blood, forming hypoxemia, which induces hypertension, cerebral heart disease, heart rate disorders, myocardial infarction, and angina pectoris. Nocturnal respiratory pauses longer than 120 seconds are prone to sudden death in the early morning. When habitual snorers have poor energy and drowsiness during the day, dry mouth and dizziness in the morning, and no relief after sleep, they should go to the hospital for consultation. Those who snore with repeated temporary stoppage of breathing or reduction of airflow during sleep should go to hospital for treatment in time. For mild snoring, you should avoid lying on your back, adjust the sleeping posture, adjust the height of the pillow, avoid drinking alcohol and taking sedatives before sleep; for moderate and severe cases, you should lose weight, treat upper respiratory tract infection, remove the cause of obstruction, and have surgery. Non-pharmacological treatments such as continuous positive pressure breathing apparatus, dental braces or tongue braces are available. Chinese medicine treatment should dispel the evil and support the righteous, supplement the deficient and diarrhea the real, and regulate the qi mainly, supplemented by tranquilizing the mind and unobstructed breathing. Mild and moderate snoring patients have good effect of TCM treatment, while severe patients need to be treated with respirator. Snorers should pay attention to life and living, light diet, proper weight loss, less smoking, no drinking, and keep good sleeping habits. Enhance physical exercise and avoid excessive fatigue.
