How should I live after a heart stent?

I am often asked this question by patients who have had stents placed in their hearts, “Will I be able to live a normal life afterwards? Can I fly home?” I would like to say: I can live like a normal person. The purpose of stenting is to improve the quality of life and the prognosis of the patient. After the stent is placed in the heart, the blocked coronary vessels are reopened and the normal blood supply is restored, so whether it is stable angina or unstable angina, the patient’s symptoms can be significantly improved. There is a patient with coronary heart disease who had 3 stents placed in his heart in our department. After the surgery, he rode a bicycle from Binzhou, Shandong Province, all the way to the west, across Shandong, Henan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai, trekking 2,155 kilometers in 11 and a half days, climbing 11,121 meters in total, averaging 187 kilometers and 967 meters per day, to reach the destination Qinghai Lake, very successfully, which is of course an extreme example, mainly to show that patients with coronary artery disease can return to normal life after complete hemodynamic reconstruction. After stenting, what is the difference with normal life? There are three main points: regular medication, regular review, and avoidance of risk factors. 1, regular medication: this is the most important key factor after stenting. I often explain to my patients that they can skip meals but not even one meal of medicine after stenting. Why? We know that stents as a metal foreign body, placed in the blood vessels have the risk of thrombosis, so 1 year after stenting (the current Chinese expert consensus), dual antiplatelet drugs (aspirin and clopidogrel or tigretol) can never be suspended privately, we have encountered cases of private drug withdrawal leading to thrombosis in the stent and thus inducing a large area of heart attack! In addition, for statins, beta-blockers and other drugs that can improve the prognosis of coronary heart disease, they should be taken for life and not privately discontinued. 2.Regular review: Regular review after stenting is very important, how your body reacts to the stent and whether there are side effects of long-term oral medication can be diagnosed early and accurately adjusted in the follow-up. 3, avoidance of risk factors: coronary heart disease is a class of atherosclerotic type disease, a systemic disease, and stenting treatment only deals with lesions with coronary stenosis above 70%, there are definitely many other sclerotic lesions, so avoidance of risk factors of atherosclerosis after stenting is particularly important. We have such a patient, after a stent was placed in the heart, the chest pain symptoms improved significantly, but after going home still smoked, stayed up late, lack of exercise and other poor lifestyle, and then the symptoms recurred in the next 3 years, and 2 consecutive stents were added, so the stent is only a cure, avoiding risk factors is the root of the problem! How to avoid the risk of coronary heart disease by crown. Strictly do the above three points, the stent can do the lifelong use, in order to restore the same life as normal people.
